Meet Bonnie Fish
Bonnie Fish is a long-time quilter who turned a prolific hobby into a business when she opened a quilt shop several years ago. Owning a quilt shop was the fulfillment of a long-held dream. She later moved her operation, which includes a longarm quilting machine, into her home where she makes all of her quilts today. Bonnie considers herself a traditionalist when it comes to the kinds of designs that she produces in classic block style, but she creates most of her original designs with a computer design program.
Bonnie and her husband moved to Fort Nelson in 1998 and were immediately struck by the small town culture. “It was so easy to meet people here,” she says. “We have friends with all kinds of different interests and backgrounds that we probably would never have met living in a city setting.” That friendly familiarity helps to make Fort Nelson a safe, secure place to live. Bonnie likes to go for walks almost as much as she likes to quilt, and she says she never worries when she walks around Fort Nelson.
Bonnie confesses that when she’s not working on a quilt she is usually busy designing a new one, though she does like to catch a football game on TV when the CFL is in session and her favourite team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, is playing. When she does take a break from quilting, she likes to pick up a good book or get outside in her garden.
Cozy. Relaxing. Easy-Care.
Cuddle up with a work of art from Bonnie’s Quilting Studio owner and quilt designer Bonnie Fish. Bonnie draws artistic inspiration from a variety of sources, like nature and even children’s literature, to create her simple yet stunning quilts, quilted bags and table runners. Bonnie’s quilts make wonderful keepsake gifts for weddings, baby showers and birthdays. Or pick one up to commemorate a trip to the historic Fort Nelson area. Bonnie’s Quilting Studio is also one of two providers in the area which offer computerized longarm quilting services. Bonnie Fish’s quilts and other designs are available at the studio as well as at the Fort Nelson Visitor Centre.
